Diagnostic services

Naturopathic Medicine is about detective work.  Naturopathic Doctors are always striving to find the underlying cause(s) of your health conditions.  In order to assist her in determining the probable causes of your concerns, Dr Zepp Rutledge may use any of the following tools:

-         Physical examination: this includes standard physical examination, such as eye/ ear/ nose/ throat/ chest/ etc. exam – that you may be familiar with through visits with your family doctor.  Physical examination may also include a more comprehensive abdominal exam (Dr Zepp Rutledge has been certified in Visceral Manipulation Levels 1 & 2 – Abdomen through the Upledger Institute), Traditional Asian Medicine tongue and pulse examination, Energy Reflex Technique (ERT) – a form of muscle testing, and/ or Iridology (Dr Zepp Rutledge is undergoing her certification through IIPA).

-         Laboratory testing:  this includes the services listed below.  Additionally, Dr Zepp Rutledge will work with your family doctor to obtain past test results – such as blood work or imaging studies.  She will also work with your family doctor to request pertinent medical tests that may not have been done.

-         Listening:  this diagnostic tool is often overlooked as a means of determining the factors involved in a person’s health.  When a doctor truly listens to a person’s concerns and merges this information with their knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry it can become very apparent as to the underlying issues affecting the patient.  The body has a remarkable way of telling us what is going on, if only we would simply respect and listen to its signs and symptoms.

Dr Zepp Rutledge will use her discretion when choosing the type of diagnostic tool(s) she may use during your assessment.  If any particular tool is of interest to you, please let her know and she would be happy to incorporate it into your visit.
